Program Notes:

Written for Osmose Festival 2026. Explanations is a back and forth where each instrument is demanding something from the other. In this piece, I had the two instruments engaged in a conversation where they take turns being avoidant and aggressive, self absorbed and generous, to imitate the cycle that I feel so many conversations can end up sinking into when each side isn’t fully willing to listen to the other.
