Program Notes:
Flowers is a three part song cycle for soprano, flute, and cello that explores the ideas of love and loss. The first part of the cycle, Seasons, exhibits the joy of falling in love. The second part of the cycle, Bed of Flowers, starts out joyful that Winter is finally over and Spring has come at last, but it ends on a sorrowful note as the narrator sings of the death of her love. The final part, River Roses, expresses the sadness and anger that the narrator feels after losing her love.
